Built on a rock! Spectacular piece of Seldovia history! It all began in 1940 and has been added onto a few times, been upgraded as the public water and sewer systems required and received a weatherization program enhancement to the insulation, above and below! No longer served by a woodstove but upgraded to a monitor stove, this darling cabin is ready for it's next occupant! House history follows- An elder in the community told me that he remembers the house being there when he moved to town in 1948. At the time, there was a walking path along the slough, no road. Eventually a road was put in, possibly after the 1964 earthquake? Enie Allen was the owner of the house in the 40's, 50's, possibly 60's. It looks like a bathroom was added in the mid 1950's due to a 1955 newspaper being found in the wall when water pipes were replaced in the bathroom. We know that Dr. and Mrs. Larry Reynolds lived in the house in the 1970's and a ways in to the 1980's, possibly. At some point, someone added on to the house, from what I can tell. That would have been the living room and larger bedroom. After them was Danny Hyatt who was the school custodian. Danny and his children built a base for an oil-fired fireplace and wrote their initials in the cement. Not sure who owned or lived in the house later in the 1990's. Do know that a man named Bob owned the house from 2003 2014. Bob and his wife were from Texas, I believe. He did a lot of the wood work that can be seen on the living room wall, the wine closet just outside the front door, probably the shed off the carport, and also the addition of the sunroom and the bedroom and half bath. Bob's father was a manager of the Red Mountain Mine outside of Seldovia, likely in the early 1900's.
